2/19 Back to CR / Cahuita

Today we got lucky again - the clouds cleared up and sun came out! We returned to San San Pond Sak wetlands reserve and boarded a boat on the river. The guides took us to a viewing platform nestled in the mangroves. The locals leave a big bunch of bananas and leaves hanging in the water for the manatees to come and eat. It took a lot of patience and quiet before we actually saw a manatee! The boys climbed and literally hung out in the mangroves waiting for the manatees to come. We waited close to 2 hours before giving up and began to board the boat again until they showed at the last minute! We all slowly and quietly walked back up the platform to watch the manatee eat. It ate for a while showing its face out of water as it swallowed whole bananas!

We had a delicious meal cooked for us by the natives who live on a strip of land where one side is river and the other side is ocean. They prepared fried chicken, lentils, rice, tomato and cabbage salad, and cut down some coconuts for us to drink the water.

After lunch, we headed back to the mainland to board our bus and cross back into Costa Rica. This time, there was no line and we entered CR easily! We traveled just 40 minutes before arriving at our beautiful beach cabins in Cahuita. The boys played in the water and the pool for the afternoon.

We grabbed dinner in town - Mexican food and ping pong. :)
