Day 2 / Feb 12 / Coffee, Volcano & Waterfall

Our first stop was a small coffee plantation called Tres Generaciones. Alonso showed us some tasty coffee beans while telling us a bit about how coffee grows. When it was time to taste the coffee, the kids dove right in and knew what to order while Ms. Lolla and Marla were clearly first-timers - tasting coffee for the very FIRST time ever - & what better way than right from the place it was grown! (I, personally didn't know humans could function without the liquid gold in the morning.)

Next stop was Poás Volcano - an active, stratovolcano with a bubbling "lagoon" in the center of its crater. Alonso taught the kids the word "paciencia" - meaning you have to wait for the winds to blow just right in order to see the crater. When we made it to the look out point - it was as if entering the surface of another planet - completely covered in fog and the smell of sulfur! We waited about 20 mins before it passed and could see the crater a bit. I personally got no pic of that, but all the kids did - so ask them when we get home!

Time for a little food to revive ourselves for the day. Some ventured outside the usual and tried new things & others didn't - ordering a hamburger larger than his hand! : )

We did a few mini-stops on the way to our next town. We saw a gushing waterfall that just happens to be right next to the highway, some very large iguanas resting in the trees, and monkeys playing in the trees - you know typical scenery as we're driving around!

We made it to Finca Don Juan - tired, giddy (see the adults skipping), but ready for the experience! The kids were pleasantly surprised to find cool bunk rooms (Pics to come!)
